Therapeutic Coaching

Focusing on your needs and resources and the strategies to meet them

What is therapeutic coaching?

Every living organism needs to take in nutrition from its environment in order to survive, develop and thrive. Take these two plants below, one is obviously receiving what it needs in balance and looks well and thriving, the other is lacking something and looks in need of care and nutrition.

2 Pot plants on a table, one is thriving the other is in need of some care and is wilting.

As humans, we are even more complex than these plants, however our wellbeing also requires us to meet our needs in balance, and this is the focus of our therapy sessions.

Why choose therapy?

Our health and wellbeing is on a continuum. Being stretched and expanding our comfort zone can be good for us, however being stressed, especially for long periods of time and/or being unsupported, can move us away from wellbeing and towards ever increasing ill health. The earlier we get support, the less impact this stress will have on our health and the quicker we can move back to wellbeing.

As the saying goes, two heads are better than one, so let’s get our heads together!

Whether you are feeling;

  • Overwhelmed by your emotions
  • Confused by life or other people
  • Confused about why you think, feel or behave in certain ways
  • Plagued by worries and/or anxiety
  • Challenged by life and what it throws at you
  • Debilitated by low mood and/or depression

… our focus in therapy will be moving  from confusion to understanding contributing to wellbeing.

What happens in a therapeutic coaching session?

Therapy sessions are as unique as each individual and I tailor the session to your specific needs and situation. Some people need time to build trust in the process and me, some want a space to explore what their issues might be and what might be causing them, others are ready to focus on a specific goal and solution in the first session. I can be flexible and adaptable to what you need and the pace you need to work.

  • Exploring basic psychological principles can help us understand why we are feeling, thinking or behaving the way we are.
  • Simple relaxation techniques can calm our nervous system, giving us back access to the clear thinking part of our brain, reinstating the ability to have hope, find solutions and motivation to take action.
  • Understanding how we can be taken over by an emotional flashback to a past event can help stabilise our confused mind.
  • Having a space to talk things through, be heard and be able to look at things from a different perspective, can help reduce stress and improve the quality of our sleep, which is our body’s natural restoration resource.

Hear what others had to say about our work together:

Bus Driver...

I was always taught to not show any sign of weakness, toughen up, stiff upper lip and all that, and then I had a heart attack before the age of 50 and realised I needed to change many aspects of my life. Julie helped me focus on all aspects of my wellbeing, increasing my activity, improving my nutrition and recognising when and with whom it is good to talk. We had regular sessions in the beginning, but now I just check in for a session when I recognise old habits are slipping back in or I need temporary support with a stressful life event.

Retired Business Owner...

After being in a serious car accident and taking quite a few months to recover, I felt like I’d lost confidence and didn’t know myself anymore. The more I pushed myself, the worse I felt. Julie helped me understand both the physical and emotional impacts of the accident and more importantly how to be compassionate with myself about the time it can take to heal. I know I recovered quicker due to Julie’s support, knowledge and skills.

Ex Military Personnel...

I thought I had buried a shameful past event in the back of my mind, until one day I started getting flashbacks and feelings of high anxiety. A friend recommended Julie, but I was scared, as I assumed talking about it would consume my life and affect my family. In reality, Julie helped me understand what was happening to me, why now and how it was a normal reaction and then explained some treatment options. I can’t believe how relaxing the treatment was and how effective and in only a few sessions.
