I work with so many capable and resilient people, who are the kindest and supportive people to others and yet inside their own inner world, they can lack compassion and kindness. They default to self criticism and self abuse, thinking this will motivate them to be different, when in fact, it often has the opposite effect …
… but did you know that hearing yourself think is completely natural? Having conflicting internal voices and opinions is also completely natural. Our inner chatter can be helpful and like a best friend, at other times it can feel like an enemy within. Interestingly, even this supposed enemy is actually trying to be your friend, trying to protect you, understanding this, can change your life significantly.

Truck Driver...
From the outside I looked like I had everything, I thought I’d ticked all the boxes of what would make me happy, a supportive partner, a nice house, a good job and yet, I wasn’t happy. My partner found Julie and I was sceptical, but she urged me to give it a try and I am so glad I did. I thought it would be a lot of dredging up my past and yet it was focused very much on my present life, referring to my past only briefly and then helping me see it from a much different perspective. After the first session, which I actually remained in for 2 hours as it was so helpful, my partner said I was a changed man.

I always had a sense I was different from others. I had family, friends and a partner I loved, but I didn’t seem to like myself very much. A friend recommended Julie and from the very first session I felt at ease and understood. Julie provided a much different view on my differences, even offered resources I could research further and over time I was able to value my differences and myself.
Emergency Service Assistant...
Recently, being on the front line during the pandemic and dealing with an accumulation of negative events, activated some old internal bullies, which Julie helped me recognise were only trying to help. All my GP could offer was medication, which only increased my anxiety and the intensity of my internal negativity. Julie was compassionate and so supportive, it took over 3 months to sort out an unpleasant misunderstanding at work and I can honestly say, without Julie’s support, I might not even be here to share my story. Our work together continues, as I have recognised I need to turn the care and attention I give to my patients, towards myself and Julie provides such a safe, supportive and trusted environment for me to do this.
